What You Will Learn
Maki-e is a traditional Japanese technique of decorating lacquerware by painting designs with lacquer and sprinkling metal powders.
In this workshop, you'll use cashew-based lacquer as a safe alternative to traditional urushi, and brass powder in place of gold, allowing you to easily create your own original piece of lacquerware.
How the Class Is Taught
The workshop is held indoors in a small-group setting, ensuring personal attention and a relaxed atmosphere.
It consists of two parts: a brief lecture and hands-on practice.
Though simplified, this version of maki-e still allows for plenty of creativity and personal expression.
